The Historic St. Augustine Area Council meets monthly to address issues within the historic district such as historic preservation, tourism, and business growth.

Meet Len Weeks, Historic St. Augustine Area Council (HSAAC) President
Weeks has been a resident of the City of St. Augustine for almost his entire life. In 1977, after graduating from the University of Florida with a Masters Degree in Building Construction, he started a general contracting firm, Len Weeks Construction Design Development, specializing in historic preservation.

Weeks served on the St. Augustine City Commission from December 1994 through December 2000, and served as Mayor of St. Augustine from December 1995 until December 2000. During that time he was very involved with Sister City projects in Aviles and Menorca, Spain. Prior to becoming a City Commissioner, Weeks served on the City's Planning and Zoning Board, Vision Planning Project and Transportation and Parking Committee. Weeks is a founding member of the St. Augustine-Baracoa Friendship Association and has also served on the boards of nearly a dozen other civic associations.

Meetings:  HSAAC meets the second Friday of each month (click for calendar). The meetings feature a guest speaker presenting relevant information to you and your business. Meetins are designed to bring members the most current information on tourism trends, local and state initiatives that have economic impact on on business in the historic district, and work to make the nation's oldest city a better place for residents and visitors.

Access to HSAAC meetings and events are a Chamber membership benefit. No additional membership cost is required. The council is open to Chamber members living or conducting business in the historic downtown St. Augustine area.

Accomplishments:

• Identified a need to help local businesses solve an issue of increased panhandling in the historic district. Worked with City Commission in support of stronger panhandling ordinance. 
• Ongoing support of the non-issuance of permits to vendors conducting business in the Plaza De La Constitucion. The council recognizes that issuing permits to vendors to conduct business in the Plaza constitutes an unfair competition to the downtown merchants who are regulated and taxed to do business.
