I have over 18 years' experience in the Accounting and Finance field and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Florida State University. In addition, I have earned the Enrolled Agent designation from the IRS and am an NTPI Fellow. An enrolled agent (EA) is a federally-authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and who is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels—examination, collection, and appeals—of the Internal Revenue Service. In addition to taxpayer representation, enrolled agents often provide tax consultation services and prepare a wide range of federal and state tax returns. An NTPI Fellow designation is evidence of significant expertise in the representation of taxpayers before the IRS.
Previously, I was the Treasury Manager at Southeastern Grocers, and was responsible for daily cash settlements, cash forecasting, and debt covenant compliance reporting. I also simultaneously owned and operated my own billiard and bar business for 10 years. During that time, I became well versed in business compliance and individual and business taxation. I found it frustrating that the tax code was so complex that it was difficult for individuals and businesses, even with honest intentions, to comply properly. Therefore, I set about becoming an Enrolled Agent and NTPI Fellow so that I could effectively help individuals and businesses, not only avoid tax problems, but also assist them in resolving tax problems.
